Dr. Roohipour and Dr. Angelo Caccamo performing minimally invasive surgery

Torrance Hernia and Endoscopy Center is a freestanding concierge hernia center uniquely designed to deliver quality care in a state-of-the-art facility. Board-certified general surgeon Ramin M. Roohipour, MD, holds the distinction of performing the first robotic single-site, extra-peritoneal bilateral inguinal hernia surgery in the United States. Here he tells us more about the practice.

What is a Hernia and how do you repair one?

A hernia occurs when a hole forms in the body’s structural layer, commonly in the abdomen, groin or diaphragm (hiatal hernia). Here, tissues or organs can protrude through this hole, causing pain, discomfort or a noticeable bulge.

Delaying hernia repair can result in serious risks and complications, such as the loss of blood supply to the tissue. This condition can cause severe pain, bowel obstruction and tissue damage, requiring emergency surgery and increasing complication risks.

Our minimally invasive hernia repair techniques offer quicker recovery than traditional methods. By employing advanced laparoscopic approaches, we minimize surrounding tissue trauma, leading to less post-operative pain and faster healing. Patients can return to their daily routines quickly with minimal disruption.

What is Endoscopy?

Upper endoscopy uses a camera to assess the upper gastrointestinal tract. It helps diagnose persistent heartburn, difficulty swallowing, abdominal pain and nausea. It can also identify and monitor GERD, ulcers, gastritis, hiatal hernias, Barrett’s esophagus and cancers affecting the esophagus, stomach or upper digestive tract.
