Melissa Weinberg

Morgan’s Jewelers was founded more than 78 years ago and has been family-owned and operated ever since. After attending San Diego State University, Melissa Varon Weinberg studied marketing and product development at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. From there, she followed the entrepreneurial example of her grandfather, founder of Morgan’s Jewelers, and started a toy company with some friends. The company was successful, but after Melissa attended a jewelry show with her parents—who also worked at Morgan’s Jewelers—she realized her true passion was for jewelry and carrying on the legacy of the family business.

Tell us about your business.

As a third-generation jeweler, I work with my family operating our retail store, where we offer a comprehensive range of services tailored to meet the needs of our multigenerational clientele, which is heavily based in the South Bay. The store is known for its unique selection of jewelry, from fun fashion/everyday pieces to high-end designer pieces, engagement rings and watches. We also pride ourselves on our in-house jewelry repair and design services, crafting custom pieces that capture the unique vision of our clients. Whether our clients are seeking a timeless classic, a one-of-a-kind creation or professional care for their jewelry, we are dedicated to delivering exceptional quality and personalized service in every interaction.

What inspired you to pursue this career?

Jewelry, gemstones and entrepreneurship have always been a part of my DNA. Watching my grandparents’ passion for the industry and their dedication to curating exceptional pieces ignited my desire to continue and evolve our family’s tradition. It’s about preserving a legacy while innovating for the future.

How does Morgan’s Jewelers stand out?

We stand out by blending our rich family heritage for over 78 years of business with a desire to nurture relationships, listen to our clients and adapt our offerings to reflect the evolving preferences of our local clientele. Nothing makes us prouder than being able to service and be part of this great community.

What are the latest trends in your industry that you’re loving?

It’s inspiring to witness so many talented women leading the way in our industry, making their mark and getting the recognition they deserve. I’m loving the trend toward bold, fun, statement jewelry that lets people express their unique styles. Additionally, the move toward ethical and eco-friendly production practices is fantastic. It’s great to see the industry embracing green measures and more sustainable approaches, making sure that beauty and responsibility go hand in hand.

Describe your dream client.

My dream client is someone who genuinely cares about their purchasing decision, no matter how big or small. I am committed to helping each client find the perfect piece so they walk away happy and revisit that joy every time they wear their special jewelry.

How can we support other women in business?

By sharing knowledge and experiences, offering guidance and being an ally when challenges arise. Building a strong network where women elevate each other creates a more inclusive and empowering environment for all women in business. I am eternally grateful for the supportive women I have met through my industry, the Women’s Jewelry Association, and charity groups such as Sandpipers, HeyMama and the National Charity League.

How does authenticity impact your business?

Authenticity is the cornerstone of our business model and is deeply embedded in every facet of our operations. As a third-generation jeweler, I am committed to preserving the values instilled by my grandparents and parents. Our pieces are not just about luxury; they tell a story through meticulous design and ethical sourcing. We pride ourselves on transparency, from the origins of our gemstones to the techniques we use, ensuring that each creation reflects true artistry and integrity. By staying true to our heritage and maintaining a personal connection with our clients, we ensure that every piece we craft is both a masterpiece and a testament to our unwavering commitment to authenticity.

How long have you lived in this community?

I was born and raised in Palos Verdes and have had a deep connection to the South Bay throughout my life. While I’ve lived various places, the South Bay has always been home, and it’s where I’ve chosen to build and cherish my family’s future. I am eternally grateful to my grandparents for having the foresight to settle here.
