A Realtor in Palos Verdes and the beach communities, Karen Lowe has more than 30 years of personal experience living in the area. She joined Compass this fall. Karen and her husband—her high school sweetheart—have been married for 31 years. They raised their three kids, now ages 29, 25 and 20, in Palos Verdes. What would you like potential clients to know about you?

I offer deep local expertise, guiding clients through every step of the process with personalized service and market insights. From luxury properties with ocean views to family homes in top-rated school districts, I focus on matching clients with homes that fit their lifestyles while maximizing value. My goal is to make each transaction smooth and successful, whether you’re a first-time buyer or a seasoned investor.


In what ways do you stand out in the real estate market?

As a Realtor in the South Bay, particularly in Palos Verdes, it is very important to have a combination of local expertise, exceptional service and innovative marketing strategies. Living in the same community for over three decades has given me unparalleled knowledge of the area—from its schools, parks and neighborhoods to local businesses and hidden gems. I offer insights that go beyond stats and listings, providing clients with a complete picture of the lifestyle. I have witnessed real estate trends and changes over the years, which allows me to have long-term perspectives on property values and community development that newer agents may not have. 


Why did you join Compass?

I decided to join Compass because their innovative approach to real estate really resonated with me. Compass provides advanced technology tools and a supportive network that enables me to serve my clients with greater efficiency and personalization. Their marketing platform in particular is top-notch, allowing me to better showcase properties and reach more targeted buyers, especially in a competitive market like Palos Verdes. Moving to Compass was a strategic decision to align myself with a brokerage that offered more local tools while allowing me the freedom to focus on what I love most: helping clients find their perfect homes. 


What inspired you to pursue this career?

After spending most of my adult life in sales of some sort, I reached a point where I wanted to focus on something that truly excited me. Real estate has always been a passion of mine, and I felt the timing was perfect for me to dive into this fascinating second career. I could combine my knowledge of the community, my experiences of raising a family here and my deep understanding of what makes a house a home. It felt like the right time to start a new chapter.

Entering real estate wasn’t just about selling homes. It was also about helping people achieve their dreams and making a meaningful impact on my community. I wanted to offer something unique: a local Realtor with the wisdom of life experiences, the energy of a fresh start and a deep passion for connecting people with their dream homes.


In what ways does authenticity play a role in your business model?

Authenticity plays a crucial role in my success as a Realtor, especially in a relationship-driven industry like real estate. Having my clients’ trust is most important. Being authentic helps your clients feel they can trust you to give them honest advice about the market, properties and any potential challenges. That trust is priceless and is key to forming long-term relationships. Authenticity ensures that you are straightforward about pricing, negotiations and expectations. This can be especially reassuring for buyers and sellers who are making major financial decisions.


What do you love about this community?

I have a deep, personal understanding of what makes Palos Verdes truly special. I’ve seen firsthand how the neighborhoods have grown and changed, and I know the hidden gems, the best schools and the local businesses that shape the area. My long-term connections to both the community and to my friendships allow me to offer clients insights and go beyond just the real estate market. I can share the full experience of what it’s like to live here.

Tell us about your family.

We’ve built a beautiful life in this community. Palos Verdes has been a backdrop for so many of our family’s memories—watching our children grow, attending local schools and enjoying everything the South Bay has to offer. My family and I have a deep connection to Palos Verdes, and it’s incredible to see it evolve over the years. That sense of community and family is something I bring into my work every day, helping others find a place where they can build their own lasting memories.
