Blazing the Trail for Women

Since the early 20th century, Chevron El Segundo has pioneered progress in the energy industry and the South Bay community.

The Chevron El Segundo culture is deeply rooted in a vision to foster a diverse and inclusive work environment where employees can reach their full potential. The refinery’s unique and diverse workforce brings together a variety of backgrounds, experiences and talents, helping engage and empower employees to be the best they can be every day.

Chevron has long been recognized as a leader in the energy industry for its innovation, ingenuity and determination. Chevron El Segundo’s talented women—rig workers, environmental specialists, operators, engineers and executives—exemplify these qualities. In fact, the Women in Operations & Maintenance roles at the refinery have been making industry-leading contributions for many years.

During World War II women broke new ground, playing increasingly important roles in offices, laboratories, refineries, service stations and even oil fields. Like today, hundreds of women were essential in maintaining the refinery’s operations. Not only did these women keep the refinery operating and ensure that it provided significant aviation fuel to support the war, but they also provided for their families and helped build the South Bay community.

This legacy of commitment that began in the early 1900s continues and is even stronger today. By fostering and promoting a sense of community and belonging within its employees, Chevron El Segundo aims to improve lives, create opportunity and enable human progress.
