Keith Marcus, MD, and his team at Marcus Medical are focused on helping locals put their best face forward.
With locations in Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach, Marcus Medical is home to doctors, nurses, physician assistants and aestheticians who offer several stages of beauty support for the face—including spa services, laser treatments, injectables, and cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. Dr. Marcus has built a reputation for excellence in facial plastic surgery and aesthetics for the past 17 years, and his team has helped him create offices that are comfortable, warm and welcoming.
Giriraj Sharma, MD, recently joined the team, bringing with him years of experience in a range of cutting-edge surgical and nonsurgical treatments. We spoke with both doctors about their work in the aesthetics field and why Marcus Medical is the go-to choice for cosmetic care in Southern California.
Dr. Marcus, tell us about the early days of Marcus Medical.
KM: Marcus Medical debuted its Redondo Beach location in 2007. Starting a small business is challenging enough, but opening during the nadir of a recession was especially difficult. The climate for spending discretionary income on aesthetic procedures was tight, and likewise the willingness to switch to a new aesthetic physician was met with hesitation. I accepted this challenge by working seven days per week for the first two years of practice.
What motivated you to demonstrate such tenacity?
KM: I knew that if we could offer high-quality care with seamless access, I could grow the practice and develop a foothold within the community. Today we pride ourselves on the same high standards and impeccable quality of health care as we did on Day 1. Marcus Medical is built on approachability, and you will feel welcomed from the minute you walk in the door. There is no stuffiness, no sterility and absolutely no judgment.
Dr. Sharma, tell us what potential patients should know about Marcus Medical.
GS: I understand that undergoing cosmetic surgery is a very personal decision that is based on a lot of thought and courage. Hence, it is critical for patients to feel the right fit with their surgeon and vice versa. I want our potential patients to know that their relationship with our practice starts from the moment they reach out to us to schedule their first consultation. Our team will be with you every step of the way—prior to, during and after your treatment. Our patients are like our family. Dr. Marcus, why did you invite Dr. Sharma to join your team?
KM: Dr. Sharma’s interdisciplinary approach and goal of maintaining patients’ natural appearance reflect the future of aesthetic medicine. His dedication to delivering long-lasting, natural results makes us confident he is the best fit for our team and, most importantly, our patients.
Dr. Sharma, how did you choose to work in this field?
GS: For me, it was the perfect combination of art, science and cutting-edge medicine. I also felt I had an aptitude for understanding aesthetics patients as individuals and relating to them. I found it to be exciting and a very natural fit.
I spent one year at the University of Toronto completing a fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. In addition to honing my skills in the most advanced facial plastic surgery techniques, I developed an acute understanding of and appreciation for the facial plastic surgeon’s relationship with their patients. My fellowship laid out a blueprint for my career, in terms of standards of care, compassion for my patients and how I envisioned my future practice.
How is the aesthetics industry—and specifically Marcus Medical—helping people look their best?
KM: The aesthetics industry is changing rapidly. Regenerative medicine is at the forefront of many new treatments and procedures. Patients today are more interested in a natural look and a healthy lifestyle—especially here in the South Bay. There is a lot of new data showing things we can do to promote longevity and reverse decades of negative environmental effects. At Marcus Medical, people will not walk out of our door looking like Beverly Hills or Newport Beach. We treat our patients with an elegant restraint that leaves them looking refreshed—not redone. I always preach, “If others can identify that you’ve had something done, it hasn’t been done well!”
