Career Joy

It was the biggest joy to find Visiting Angels. It’s a wonderful franchise that provides care for the elderly and their families. We purchased the South Bay franchise in 2009. We are licensed and bonded with the state of California, and our caregivers are all background-checked by the FBI. Every step of setting up our business has been an amazing journey. The best part is the day-to-day care of our elderly clients. We love doing our job!

Team Support

We treat our staff members as family, honoring birthdays with gift cards and providing Christmas bonuses and gifts for all of our 75 caregivers and office staff. Our office staff hosts a three-day Christmas party every year so our caregivers can stop by for some holiday cheer. We provide benefits for our employees and are available 24 hours a day for any problem our caregivers may have and to assist them in better serving clients. We have received the Employer of Choice award for the last four years from Home Care Pulse.

Always Available

Visiting Angels offers home care for many purposes. We work all hours, 24/7, tailoring our services to each client’s needs. We offer a minimum of four hours of care, two days per week. This is a popular way to get started with home care. We offer a free assessment so the client and their family can meet us and discuss their needs.

Rewarding Work

People often need help as they age in place in their homes. Being a part of that has been a great feeling for all of us at Visiting Angels. Staying at home is so important for elderly people to have independence and peace of mind. However, many people need some help, such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, and assistance with hygiene, dressing and mobility.

Companionship is an amazing part of what we do. All people get lonely, and we think the elderly—especially those unable to leave their homes—are affected even more. They need to see people and share their feelings, their stories and some laughs. Having a caregiver from Visiting Angels may be all that they have to look forward to. A caregiver can take the client to church, book club or to a park to visit friends. Our caregivers provide a level of care that goes over and above the call of duty.

Preventive Care

The presence of Visiting Angels serves as preventive care. With a caregiver, your elderly parent has less chance of falling, getting dehydrated, not eating, becoming lonely or not bathing. While our caregivers are nonmedical personnel, they have sent clients to the hospital when detecting drooping mouths, slurred speech or any unusual behavior.

A Visiting Angel

In September 2020, Duane experienced severe chest pains right after dinner. I immediately called 911 and was able to get him to Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center in San Pedro within 30 minutes. Duane was in severe pain, yet his EKG was normal. They did a CT scan, discovered he was suffering from an aortic dissection and recommended immediate open-heart surgery. He was transported to Keck Medicine of USC for the surgery, and after many weeks of ups and downs, we were finally able to take Duane home.  I was in need of help and so fortunate to have the assistance of one of our best caregivers, Stan. He had worked for us for 12 years and was a godsend at that time, when I needed to go to the office a few times a week. He fed and bathed my husband, dressed him, walked with him and did physical therapy with him. He cooked us meals before he left so I didn’t have to worry about dinner. Stan did our laundry, changed our bedding, kept me sane and was my emotional support. He would even sit in the ER during the times Duane had difficulty with medication or pain. This was a very difficult time for us, and we don’t know how we would have survived without our Visiting Angel Stan.

Work-Life Balance

Duane and I have many friends whom we see frequently. We belong to the Catholic church that I grew up in, St. John Fisher in Rancho Palos Verdes. We raised our children in Palos Verdes as well. We belong to Palos Verdes Tennis Club, and I play in the South Bay Marine League. Duane had a second open-heart surgery and is recovering well and is back to work (from home).
