Withers Dental
"We love it when patients ask questions and take an interested, proactive role in their oral health.”

Withers Dental was started in 1965 by Dr. James Withers, a lifelong resident of Manhattan Beach. In fact, the Withers family has been in the South Bay since the early 1900s! James’ son and fellow dentist, Dr. Brian Withers, joined the practice in 2008 and bought it from his father in 2011. James likes to read, golf and fish. Father and son have been fishing together many times. They both love going to USC football games and are big Laker fans. Brian enjoys music, cooking, riding his bike and occasionally surfing. Withers Dental specializes in restorative, implant and cosmetic dentistry. They assist patients with anything from simple fillings and check-ups to Invisalign, root canals, oral surgery and cosmetic dental needs.
What’s one trend that is changing your specialty today?
“Dentistry is rapidly changing as it moves into the digital age. With the use of digital radiographs, intra- and extra-oral photography and flat screen HDTVs in every op and hygiene room, we are able to provide better treatment and educate our patients as to what is going on in their mouths.”
Tell us about the staff at your practice.
“We have many dedicated team members, a few who have been working with our practice for decades. Our jobs are challenging, and we like to have team members who not only look forward to meeting those challenges but look forward to learning from them.”
How do you give back to your community?
“We volunteer our time and equipment at the Give Kids a Smile Clinic. Brian was a captain of the football team when he was in high school, and he has enjoyed making the mouth guards for the Mira Costa High School football team the past few years.”
What’s most rewarding about your work?
“We love when we finish a cosmetic case and see a patient experience their new smile for the first time. Being there for our patients and our community in any capacity is what sends us home happy each day. We also love the sense of community we feel with our patients when we’re in or out of the office. Many have been with our practice for decades!”
