Sugar Rays Studio is a chic and friendly beauty services studio offering natural airbrush tanning, body waxing, eyelash extensions and manicures and pedicures. Sugar Rays is committed to providing clean and professional services in a friendly environment and using safe and eco-friendly products. Owner Denise Barrett came to the United States in 1975 as an 11-year old refugee from war-torn Saigon. Through hard work and commitment, she learned a new language and adapted to her new culture. She graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in marketing. After 15 years working in the corporate world, Denise took the entrepreneurial leap and opened Sugar Rays Airbrush Tanning in 2008. Denise envisioned using the two adjacent retail spaces as a future location for Sugar Rays to expand. In 2010, she opened Sugar Rays Waxing Studio, and her full vision was realized in May 2012 with the opening of Sugar Rays Nails Studio.

What do you want potential clients to know about your business?

“We want our clients to look forward to their next visit to Sugar Rays and know they have received the safest and best services available. We know our clients are busy people. Most of our services are completed in 30 minutes or less.”

Tell us about your services.

“Our tanning process uses natural ingredients and state-of-the-art equipment with a personalized application. Our waterless pedicure eliminates the unsanitary foot spas common in most salons. We describe our pedicure as a foot facial.”

Was there a defining moment in your career that guided you to where you are now?

“After years of going to nail salons that looked dirty, smelled badly and were staffed by seemingly miserable technicians who didn’t speak English or seem to care about their job, I decided there had to be a better solution to routine nail maintenance. Why can’t a mani-pedi be safe, beautiful and fun? Sugar Rays Studio was the answer.”

What does the future hold for your company?

“Sugar Rays will continue to refine its processes and search for or develop a broader line of eco-friendly products. Sugar Rays expects to open additional locations in California and on the East Coast.”
