The mission of South Bay Dental Solutions is to build strong patient relationships that reflect trust, integrity and uncompromised care. Their dedicated team members have been familiar faces to patients for many years, and they have created a dental home for patients to learn about ideal dentistry, personal choice and options in a warm and comfortable setting. Owner Bryan Baker is a third-generation South Bay resident, in practice for 16 years. A graduate of UCLA’s dental school, he is trained as a Maxillofacial Prosthodontist—a specialty involving implants, aesthetics and reconstructive dentistry. General dentist Christina Stahlheber graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry and has been in practice for eight years. After an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at UCLA, she joined Dr. Baker’s practice in 2009.
What’s one trend that is changing dentistry today?
“Dentists are paying attention to patterns of tooth wear and breakdown and how this correlates to disturbances in sleep. Recognizing these patterns and addressing contributing factors before starting dental treatment had been overlooked; now we’re looking at patients more comprehensively than just teeth. This helps us create more thoughtful treatment plans that are more predictable and result in better treatment for our patients.”
What does the future hold for your practice?
“We have made a significant effort to bring future technologies into our practice today, such as laser technology, a 3-D scanner and the BioPak system, which allows us to measure the function and health of the jaw joint and track treatment progress.”
What would you like potential patients to know about you?
Bryan: “We don’t just treat teeth; we treat people. Often the break-down of teeth is the symptom of another problem. Sleep apnea could cause someone to grind their teeth or stress could cause jaw issues, thus causing problems with the teeth. By treating the cause of the problem, things can finally stop breaking down.”
What’s most rewarding about your work?
Christina: “Obviously it’s nice to know you helped get someone out of discomfort, fixed a broken tooth or gave patients the education to best take care of their smiles, but it’s priceless to earn a patient’s trust.”
