Sheri Handel and Kurt Schlichter

Schlichter & Shonack, LLP

Law partners and Loyola Law School classmates Kurt Schlichter and Sheri Handel have spent over 15 years representing clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to mid-size businesses, entrepreneurs and individuals in disputes involving contracts, real estate, construction, labor, collections and injuries. To trial lawyer and Million Dollar Advocate Forum member Schlichter, litigation requires strategy. A 24-year Army infantry officer, his experience comes in handy when he’s litigating cases. After deploying twice, briefing generals and commanding battalions, he doesn’t easily get intimidated. Handel adds an additional dimension to the firm being an experienced transactional attorney as well as a business litigator. This is unusual because most attorneys are either litigators or transactional. Handel credits her extensive experience in corporate reorganizations for developing her litigation and transactional practice. She oversees her own practice area, aggressively representing her clients in all aspects  of business, which includes real estate, corporate matters, and bankruptcy law.

TEAM PLAYER

“I want to work with clients who focus on their strategic objectives and who want to be aggressive. Litigation is collaboration. I’ll never understand a client’s business nearly as well as the client does until we get to trial and I’ve lived with it all day, every day for a long time. I need the client as a partner in the fight,” says Schlichter.

EMPOWERING PEOPLE

“I am motivated by the passion I have to do the best job I can do to help empower people. For example, initiating real estate or business litigation on behalf of someone who has been aggrieved; defending against a lawsuit brought against a client contesting the dischargeability of a debt; drafting a personal placement memorandum to protect the principals of a business seeking investors; consummating a purchase or sale of a business; drafting a partnership agreement or contract between businesses, or providing insolvency counseling,” says Handel.
