Making It Work

Starting with a small alcove, Southbay editor Darren Elms turns a limited space into a functional office for working from home. Mixing a red desk discovered at a second-hand store with a modern Aeron chair and hanging a row of framed wrapping paper sheets (cheap & easy), a boring corner gets function, flair and a needed pop of color.

Tanya Finney, recently promoted from head gardener to superintendent at South Coast Botanic Garden in Palos Verdes, oversees all gardens, plant collections, horticulture and maintenance in her regular routine. Although she says she doesn’t get quite as much dirt between her fingernails in her new job, Tanya still shares her passion for gardening in the South Bay.
