What is the definition of KAA Design?

“We are deeply committed architects who treat every project as a unique opportunity to create high-quality architecture that embodies our clients’ lifestyles. Our work evolves from each of our clients’ personal stories. We take on relatively few projects each year as we want to invest the time and attention necessary to guarantee that each is completed with the caliber of quality we demand.” 

What are some of the most exciting projects you’ve completed? 

“We’ve had the privilege of working with incredible clients on a wide variety of  projects including museums, restaurants, boutique hotels and luxury retailers. These public spaces engage each visitor and present design opportunities that are both challenging and stimulating. That being said, we are now fully focused on residential design. While the design of residences is full of its own challenges and idiosyncrasies, it is exactly those unique and highly personal demands that excite us. We truly love the opportunity to tell the story of a family by translating their distinct lifestyle into three-dimensional form.”

Tell us about the project you’ve featured.

“This project truly captured the lifestyle of its owners. After living in the same house for 30 years and raising four children in the South Bay, the owners decided to give themselves the gift of a new home for the next phase of their life. The house has four stories, but the main living areas are on the ground and second floor. When the children and grandchildren visit, a subterranean floor and the fourth floor accommodate everyone. Additionally, this house was constructed with a comprehensive environmental agenda. From local materials and labor, to geothermal heating and cooling and photovoltaic energy, every possible green technology was considered.” 

What’s on the horizon for KAA Design?

“We’re thrilled to announce our Rusa outdoor furniture collection with Design Within Reach. Outdoor living is a critical component of our work and the Southern California lifestyle, so this was a natural. But what’s really exciting are the latest projects we have on our desks. As we continue to hone our process of carefully crafting our client’s vision, we’ve observed the design work getting more and more authentic, timeless, and exciting. That’s why we get up in morning.”
