“You have to have the skills, knowledge and confidence to be able to advise and execute for your clients. In addition, you also need to genuinely care about your clients."

The Edler Group, which is a part of Peninsula Sotheby’s International Realty, is comprised of three partners: Realtors Rick Edler, Kitty Edler and Darin DeRenzis. The three have a combined 55+ years experience in the real estate industry. They specialize in properties located in the Palos Verdes Peninsula area, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach and Torrance. Kitty lives in Rolling Hills Estates and graduated from the University of Iowa. Rick lives in Palos Verdes Estates (Valmonte) and graduated from USC. Darin lives in Hermosa Beach and graduated from UCLA. “We understand the culture and have extensive market knowledge of the South Bay,” the group says. “We have real-life experience, having lived in and/or owned properties in most of the cities in the area.”

In what ways do you provide top-notch customer service?
Darin: “The key to everything is listening to clients’ needs and then anticipating what will be needed to help them. For the last 30 years, Kitty has been developing lifelong friendships through her work—not just clients. It’s because of the way she takes care of her clients like family. Rick and I both learned that from her.”

How many transactions did you complete last year?
“We did $80 million-plus in sales between all team members.”

How do you give back to your community?
“Philanthropy is very important to us, as are our families. We all serve on boards of charities and give back to our schools, because that is the foundation of our community. Darin is on the executive advisory board for Walk With Sally. Rick is on the board of directors for CRMLS and the board of trustees for Marymount College. Kitty serves on the boards of The Compassionate Friends, Trinity Care Hospice and Friends of Palos Verdes Library.”

What’s most rewarding about your work?
“Watching people enjoy their homes and their lives. Watching people write the stories of their lives. We help people achieve their dreams and create happy places to live. Who wouldn’t enjoy doing that?"

What is the biggest challenge facing your clients today?
“Understanding the many dimensions of buying and selling a home. It is a combination of understanding the market, understanding clients’ needs and understanding their goals. A home is an investment, a shelter, a home, a sanctuary, a place to share your story. It is not just one of these factors.”

What do your clients love about living in this area?
Rick: “Homes are just boxes. It is the people living in the home that gives the home its story. It is also the neighbors and people that make up a neighborhood and community. The people who move into this community love the community.”
