favorite books

I really love big beautiful books that are about interior design or fashion. I can't get enough. It's difficult to narrow down a favorite, but these are a few that are great for different reasons.

1: a perfectly kept house is a sign of a misspent life by Mary Randolph Carter-this is a great book for anyone who struggles with keeping it all together amongst the kids, dogs, and everyday life.

2: Lifting the Curtain on Design by Vincent Wolf-he's a super talented designer and is very generous with his secrets and tricks of the trade. He has a great blog too at www.vincentwolfblog.com

3. The Joy of Decorating by Phoebe Howard- just a gorgeous book. She's a wonderful designer, works with her husband who is a designer as well, and they have a new furniture line.

4. Living With Design by David Hicks (1929-1998)- very famous English designer who designed for the royal family among others. His design principles still stand the test of time.

5. Decorates by Charlotte Moss- this book is so fun to look at. Charlotte Moss is one of the best and lays out her ideas like a scrapbook so you can see her thought process and how her ideas comes to life.

5. Style and Substance, The Best of Elle Decor by Margaret Russell-the former Editor of Elle Decor has her favorites from the magazine compiled in this book. It's the best of the best and I miss her as the editor of the magazine; she has a great eye as this book shows.

Top photo: A Wonderful Time by Slim Aarons-one of my favorite photograhers. Any book by him or about him is fascinating.
