spring cleaning

My favorite thing to do is head over to the The Container Store and browse for new ways to organize. I agree that's not most people's idea of fun, however nothing feels better than having a clutter free environment (or at least having ways to hide the clutter). These are my go-to items when I need to clean out a space and make it look fresh and clean. Their clear plastic shoe boxes which come in all sizes are the best for categorizing items, the Simplehuman step waste can is so cute and adds a retro feel to your kitchen, these Stockholm boxes come in all colors and are a great desk accessory, I love a lucite tray and these help with messy desks, they have lots of jewelry display items to choose from and I found these hanging spinners to work wonders, the...

small plates

There's a restaurant trend sweeping the South Bay and it's called "small plates." Some people might be confused by this and think they are being taken advantage of and really would prefer a "big plate." I think if explained properly the idea of small plates can be satisfying and absolutely a favorable option. Usually restaurants describing their menu with the small plate option have a good variety of menu options and oftentimes the dishes are rich in flavor. Meaning they are more spicy, sweet, made with generous portions of cheese or garlic, garnished with a heavy sauce, and drizzled or topped with a rich oil of some kind. Holidays are upon us

My how time flies. I have heard that a lot lately. How are you feeling now that Thanksgiving is a week away and Christmas is in 5 weeks? I'm wishing I could make time stand still for a little while so that I can spend more time with friends, not grow older, and let babies be babies for a little while longer. Since I don't have that kind of power, all that I can do is try to live in the moment and take it all in. We have an upcoming family wedding that the entire Roughen clan is all a-buzz thinking about. Our family babies have been on a trip around the world since August and we miss them terribly and know that when they return they'll no longer be babies, my friends in New Zealand are too far away and I wish I could hop on a plane every other week to see them. simple ideas

I found this idea so simple and easy to make. Save your used cans with a colorful label and plant a succulent or easy flower in them. Great hostess gift, teacher gift, or line them up as a table centerpiece or party decor. I'm looking at all the cans in my pantry differently now. image via camillestyles

Throughout the year I dream of summer and how life seems much simpler for some reason. Flip flops can be worn day and night, refreshing drinks are on hand, a favorite white dress or shirt can be worn as many times as possible. As this summer seems to be speeding by, I have to remind myself to savor the moments I love and look forward to every year at this time. I hope you are doing the same with whatever your summertime rituals are.
