What locals are talking about from El Segundo to the PV Peninsula
The Craft

I had my first encounter with beer at an early age. There's an image of my dad, a former LAPD motor cop, offering the two-year-old version of myself a sip of beer from his Coors can while his police buddies look on. Anyone else see the irony here? Truth is, I didn't care for the taste, and though I'd have a bottle of Heineken at a bar or party every once in a while, beer was never my first drink of choice.
Well into my 30s, my palate is changing. And it's not a cocktail or glass of pinot I'm craving...it's beer. Good beer. Craft beer. Luckily the South Bay is full of great crafts on tap, especially here in Hermosa right by our offices. Happy hour anyone? There's Silvio's, Hennessey's, and the new Hot's Kitchen impressive beer list. There's even talk of a Craft Beer Festival started by our own Todd Klawin. More to come on that. For now, we get another new entry in the craft beer cavalcade, The Rockefeller, opening shortly on Pier Avenue.
Southbay Magazine is hosting a pre-opening event this Saturday, May 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. Price at the door is 20 bucks and includes entry to St. Rocke for Dueling Pianos after at 7. Address for The Rockefeller is 418 Pier Avenue in Hermosa. Hope to see you there and raise a glass!

You clearly don't know what your talking about. Beer and Hennessey's are certainly not synonymous with one another. Perhaps if your father would have given you a sip of London Pride, or Ol' Rasputin your education may have taken a turn for the better. There are no decent pubs in the entire South Bay. I should know, Ive lived here nearly all of my life.
Hi Anonymous,
Thanks for the feedback. While I never claimed to be the connoisseur of beer you imply (my first beer was Coors after all), I have to disagree that there's not good beer in the South Bay. We may not have the pick of pubs the Westside offers, but that doesn't stop locals from getting out to a neighborhood favorite and enjoying a cold draft with friends. Hopefully new venues like Hot's Kitchen and The Rockefeller will change your mind. If not, we'll raise a glass with you at the planned craft beer festival later this year.
There is craft beer at The 1321 Taproom in Torrance. Yes I know beers. English, Scottish, American craft, but the South bay is getting better. Give it a try.
