For more than 50 years, Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance has been providing compassionate care to the people of the South Bay and Palos Verdes Peninsula communities. The hospital offers general medical and surgical services and specialty programs including cardiovascular services, women’s and children’s health, oncology and emergency care. In June, Liz Dunne took over as chief executive of the hospital, one of the largest employers in Torrance. “The challenges and goals here mesh perfectly with my passion to work in a medical center where people are committed to the mission, the care, the community and to making a difference every day,” Liz says. “We’ve created an environment where our patients receive great care, where physicians want to practice and where our employees enjoy their work.”

Was there a defining moment in your career that guided you to where you are now?

“My original background was as a pediatric registered dietitian; I focused on helping high-risk babies and special needs children. I learned the importance of psychosocial and supportive care for families going through difficulties, which is still at the root of my career today.”

How do you give back to your community?

“Combined with our sister hospital in San Pedro, we are able to impact the lives of more than 70,000 underserved and vulnerable South Bay residents annually through our charitable care and community benefit programs.”

What do you like to do for fun, when you’re not at work?

“Mostly I spend time with family and friends. And I love to hike, especially the many trails throughout Palos Verdes.”

Tell us a bit about your working style.

“I’m mission-driven and like to emotionally connect with people. Building relationships is key to successful leadership, as collaboration builds new ideas and strong ties.”

What’s most rewarding about your work?

“Our compassionate and excellent care positively improves the health and well-being of our patients and makes a difference in the lives of their families, every day.”
