1179 Debbie Hill Road in Cotati | 707-795-4560  katarinawines.com

Since 1996, Field Vineyards has grown award-winning cabernet grapes for some of the finest wine labels in the industry. In 2003, owner Katarina (Nina) Field added her own wines, crafted from the oldest vines on the vineyard, including Katarina Cabernet and Katarina Chardonnay. Field Vineyards is a family-run business, with Nina acting as the creative vision and overseeing all aspects. She was born in Sweden; trained with the Swedish Royal Ballet; attended cosmetology school; and was an actor in movies and TV shows, including All My Children. Nina is also a clothing designer for her own women’s clothing line, Nina Field Fashion, carried in boutiques around the country. A long-time Hermosa Beach resident, she enjoys visiting her beach home and spending time on her boat in Marina Del Rey where she can relax and entertain friends and family.

How did you become a wine maker?

“I initially purchased a home on six acres south of Santa Rosa–with no plans to get into the wine business. I found out that Gallo had purchased land next to my property, where their soil testing found that this area was perfect for growing chardonnay grapes. I then purchased the adjoining property to mine in order to combine the land and develop a vineyard. I now have three vineyards with a total of 150 acres of land. This all happened so fast!  Before I knew it, I was heavily entrenched in the wine industry.”

Who is your professional role model?

“My late husband, Frank Field, who was very inspirational and a hard worker. He started his Torrance-based manufacturing business, Field Manufacturing Corporation, from the ground up in 1947. The company today is still a leading manufacturer of store fixtures and sign holders for retailers like Sears and Kmart.”

What’s most rewarding about your work?

“Seeing my wine through all its stages–from the grapes on the vineyards to the production and all the way to the bottle–and then seeing people enjoy my wine.  Great results make happy clients!”
