Guzman Law Group, P.C., is a firm which focuses on owners of closely held businesses, from start ups to multi-million dollar corporations in all industries, ranging from manufacturing to entertainment. The firm, comprised of four attorneys, two para-professionals and three support staff members, acts as their clients’ in-house corporate counsel, representing them on a variety of business issues. “As the business grows, so does the owner’s individual wealth,” says Ms. Guzman. “We are then in a unique position to guide them in their individual estate planning needs.” Founder Denise M. Guzman is a noted business and estate planning attorney who has served the South Bay for the last 30 years. She earned her bachelor’s degree from USC and a law degree from UCLA; she founded her first law practice in 1978. Ms. Guzman founded the South Bay chapter of the American Business Women’s Association, a national organization dedicated to fostering professional and personal growth for women in business. In 2003, Ms. Guzman received the “Woman of the Year” award from The Switzer Center for her service to the community. In 2010, Comerica Bank, in partnership with the Los Angeles Lakers, named her their “Woman of Entrepreneurship” honoree. For all her accolades, to her clients Ms. Guzman is frequently referred to as a “friend,” an important testament to the way she conducts business. “My goal was to create a team of attorneys and support staff that shared in my vision for the care and quality that I give my clients,” she says. “Everyone here loves what they do, which is reflected in the high quality of our work and the strong client relationships we have built.”

What’s most rewarding about your work?

Carla B. Hoffman, Estate Planning Attorney: “I work with many local families, assisting them with planning for their family’s future and helping them with their wealth transfer as they get older.”

Describe your initial reading of a client’s file:

Sally Huang, Corporate/Trust Administrator: “I think of Trust Administration as getting to know the client and their family. I don’t think of it as the trust entity. It’s about the person or family that lies within the pages of the trust, and it’s my job to make sure that the intent is executed.”
