A 27-year friendship and a mutual passion for health and fitness led Angela Bennett and Franca Stadvec to open Fit On Studios in Manhattan Beach late last year. They were sorority sisters at San Diego State University, and both had professional careers before deciding to be stay-at-home moms turned fitness studio owners. Franca was in advertising and worked as an actor. She has owned an internet company with her husband for the past 10 years. Angela worked in sales. The co-owners describe Fit On Studios as a “premier, personalized health and fitness destination.” They offer a well-rounded program including cardio with indoor cycling, Barre Physique for toning and shaping, and TRX and circuit training classes for core and strength training.

How did you develop the concept of your studio?

“Angela enjoyed spinning, and Franca was doing barre. We thought that combining the two would be the perfect workout, and we saw a need for a personalized fitness studio in the South Bay where people could work out and get on with their day−without having to worry about parking or competing to get on a bike or into a group class. We wanted to combine an excellent workout with community and social aspects.”

Who is your target client?

“We definitely have a strong `mom’ following, but with very little advertising, many professionals have started to walk in. We have also developed programs for teens to help get them off the couch and respect their bodies with our Fit On Teen classes. We offer something for anyone who wants to get a fulfilling workout, whatever their level−from the beginner to the extreme athlete.”

What do you like to do for fun, when you’re not at work?

“Not only are we best friends from college, our husbands and kids are close as well. We go on family ski vacations and love spending days at the beach or going for hikes and nature walks with our dogs.”

What’s most rewarding about your work?

Angela: “We wanted to give back to our community, but what surprised us the most was how rewarding helping others would be. Helping and motivating our clients attain their goals is something you cannot put a price tag on.”

Who is your professional role model?

Franca: “Our role models are our clients who work so hard to maintain their health and fitness while balancing working, parenting, volunteering and life’s other daily demands. Most of our instructors are moms and dads in the community who are amazing athletes and teachers.”
